I am truly delighted to have received the Reaching Out Award, which gave me the incredible opportunity to embark on a study trip to Melbourne, Australia. This unforgettable journey would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of the School for Higher and Professional Education of the Vocational Training Council and the RMIT University (RMIT).
During the laboratory sessions at RMIT, I learned various experimental techniques such as improving data accuracy and identifying variables that could influence outcomes. These lessons consolidated my foundation in scientific analysis, significantly enhancing my confidence and ability to write lab reports and dissertations with precision. This invaluable hands-on experience allowed me to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical applications. Additionally, it gave me a good chance to improve my English communication skills. Although it felt a bit daunting initially, I got used to it gradually with daily practice.
Beyond the academic realm, the trip exposed me to Melbourne’s rich cultural diversity. The city converges people from various countries, making it a fascinating place to learn about different cultures. I took the opportunity to enjoy international cuisine and explore the city’s vibrant heritage, visiting landmarks such as the State Library Victoria and the National Gallery of Victoria. Equally memorable were Melbourne’s scenic spots. I had much pleasure in visiting the Twelve Apostles and the Brighton Bathing Boxes, as well as viewing the Penguin Parade on Philip Island. The spectacular natural scenery of the Twelve Apostles was particularly captivating. Melbourne’s urban planning also left a lasting impression on me. The harmonious blend of modern skyscrapers and historic architecture, interspersed with large green parks and free tram zones in the city centre, creates a stunning and eco-conscious cityscape. Its thoughtful design not only enhances the quality of life but also demonstrates a commitment to sustainability. In some areas, minimal light pollution even allowed us to enjoy clear views of the night sky.
This journey is a transformative experience of learning, discovery and personal growth. It has boosted my confidence, expanded my worldview, and underscored the importance of stepping out of my comfort zone to embrace new challenges. I am sincerely grateful for the support provided by the Reaching Out Award, and I wholeheartedly encourage other students to step beyond the classroom and discover the endless possibilities the world has to offer.
