What are the keys to success? Everyone can tell they are diligence, determination, and perseverance. But simply knowing this is not enough. Experience has taught me that actions speak louder than words, and I hope that my sharing below can inspire you.
Like most of the people, I am an ordinary person without exceptional ability. However, the lack of innate talents should not discourage us from pursuing our dreams. With persistent efforts, all of us can realise our aspirations. For me, it was not until I entered university that I began studying hard. At that time, I always wondered why my peers studied so hard. What were they aiming for in addition to good grades? To discover the reasons behind, I carried out an “experiment” in which I crammed for my first mid-term test for a few days, hoping to see what hard work would bring me. It came as no surprise that my results were mediocre. Given short period of revision, the validity of the experiment outcome was questionable. So, I continued with the “experiment” and studied every day for a few weeks before the exam. To my surprise, my grades improved even though I spent little time on revision each day. I was also astonished by the noticeable rise in my GPA despite the modest improvement in individual subject grades. Most importantly, I felt a sense of accomplishment in my studies for the first time, which in turn became my prime motivator in the pursuit of academic excellence.
In the blink of an eye, three years of my university life passed. Every day, I studied hard and spent time doing daily revision. There were moments when I felt lost and wanted to quit. Fortunately, I ended up getting over these difficult times with determination and resilience. In fact, whenever there is a temptation to give up, there is an opportunity to learn to resist the temptation and bring ourselves back to the right track. All of us should capitalise on our potential to prepare ourselves for future opportunities and challenges. Diligence can contribute to a meaningful life. My belief is: “Only if we try and persist, we will have the chance to succeed.”
I am delighted to receive this scholarship which can cover part of my tuition fees and expenses on reference books. The award motivates me to progress further. Aspiring to be a clinical psychologist, I plan to pursue a master’s degree in Psychology after graduation. I am ready to navigate this challenging path to realise my dream. I strongly believe that physical and mental health are equally vital to maintaining one’s wellness, yet the latter is often overlooked. After all, soothing mental pain is just as important as deadening physical suffering. I will make my best endeavours to be a beacon that illuminates the way ahead for those who wish to heal their emotional wounds and turn the page for a fresh start.
