Outstanding Performance Scholarship
Recipients in the 2019/20 Academic Year

CHUNG Ka-fai
Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Bilingual Studies
School of Professional Education and Executive Development, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
This is a special year for me. I am going to graduate with first class honours in Bilingual Studies from PolyU SPEED after two years of hard work. I was placed on the Dean’s List every semester and eventually achieved a cumulative GPA of 4.0.
As a student of bilingual studies, I am fascinated by linguistics. I have acquired through the programme a general understanding of linguistics, which has enabled me to appreciate the human, cultural and social dimensions of languages. To explore my interests in the field of linguistics, I will start a Master’s programme in linguistics at the University of Hong Kong in the next academic year. I am also passionate about music, especially the classical genre. I have passed my Grade 8 piano examination with a merit and actively participated in public performances. For example, I have played various pieces at the concert hall of the China Congregational Church. I am a regular of piano workshops organised by the Music Academy as well. Such experiences have helped me sharpen my piano skills. In my spare time, I enjoy going to concerts at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre to appreciate the artistry of talented musicians.
I have seized the opportunity to enrich myself by serving as a student editor and then a summer intern during my summer vacation in 2019. As a student editor for the School Employability Team of PolyU SPEED, I conducted face-to-face interviews with students and recorded the findings for the compilation of the Work-Integrated Education booklet. Working as a summer intern at the Hong Kong Housing Society, I translated notices for my supervisors and provided general editing support to the Property Management Division.
I am truly grateful for being chosen for the Outstanding Performance Scholarship by the Education Bureau in recognition of my academic performance. I am deeply encouraged by the award and will redouble my efforts in both my academic and non-academic pursuits.
