I’ve never been a competitive person, so it never bothered me when my classmates compared their grades with each other. I wouldn’t feel ashamed when they had better grades, nor would I pride myself on mine when I outshined the others. Comparison may spark motivation for some people, but for me the best motivation always comes from within, not from others. Last year, with my graduation soon approaching, I realised that I need to set a clear path for progression more than ever. Aspiring to become a primary school teacher, I know that I have to meet the required standards in such areas as language proficiency, academic performance and organisation skills. Once the goal was set, I felt driven to forge ahead. It was not an easy process, but it is very encouraging to be given the Best Progress Award by my school, which is a recognition of my efforts and drives me to keep going above and beyond.
