Everyone has a dream, but few dreams come true. For me, the dream is to be an engineer. Back in my secondary school days, I was given many opportunities to create innovative inventions and these attempts have brought me much closer to my dream.
Over the years, I have taken part in many robotics and innovative technology competitions and was awarded prizes on some occasions. For robotics, I represented Hong Kong in the VEX IQ Robotics World Competition, the VEX Robotics World Championship and the Asia-Pacific Robotics Championship China Qualifier held in the United States, Taiwan and China (Dongguan) respectively. In these competitions, as I was required to vie with representatives from different countries on a team basis, I got the chance to see the designs of other participating regions. Such eye-opening experiences enabled me to understand better my own shortcomings, prompting me to work harder to seek improvements in those areas.
For innovative technology, the most unforgettable occasion dates back to two years ago – the Asia Pacific ICT Awards in which I was invited to represent Hong Kong. I was awarded the Merit Prize in this competition, and because of this, received a letter of commendation from the Government. The invention that I presented for Hong Kong then was covered by various newspapers and magazines. In 2015, I was given the Outstanding ICT Women Award, which serves not only as a recognition of my achievements in information and communication technology, but also as the impetus driving me to make further progress in this field.
Looking ahead, I will continue to create innovative inventions to enhance our quality of life. Moreover, I hope to acquire more related knowledge through mechanical engineering studies at the university.
