Talent Development Scholarship

Chow Tsz Ho
Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Music Studies, School of Continuing Education, Hong Kong Baptist University
I am much honored to receive the Talent Development Scholarship from the Education Bureau. This is not merely an encouragement to my continuous development in the musical field, this is also a recognition of my past effort and dedication.
I have always been devoted to music since my childhood. My dream was to become a professional violinist. After graduating from secondary school, I studied abroad as a music student in the United States. Unfortunately I had to return to Hong Kong due to my family’s financial situation. I felt very helpless and hopeless. Upholding my passion for music, with the support of my family, I decided to enroll in music degree again after returning to Hong Kong. A friend from Hong Kong Baptist University told me that the self-financed Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Music Studies of Hong Kong Baptist University was about to be introduced that year. This undoubtedly gave me another avenue to pursue my dream. I applied for the program with great expectation.
During these two years of study, I realised that the program is very comprehensive. In addition to the concise music education (such as major instrument, music history, analysis), it also covers music business course and internship, which were practical and useful in preparing me for my graduation. The study experience was further enriched by the Europe Performance Tour. I was also honored to win the third prize in Japan Hong Kong Music Competition. These valuable experiences have broadened my horizon and enhanced my music skills and personal growth which could not be achieved by classroom learning.
I hope to advance my violin performance and to devote myself to music education, assisting students who are interested in studying music. Although music profession is never an easy path, I believe that with perseverance and hard work. I can realise my dream someday. The self-funded degree program should not be a second-rate alternative for students with unsatisfactory results in public exam. To me, it is a valuable option for young people. If only we cherish this good opportunity, the dream will come true. Lastly, I could like to express my gratitude for the teaching and insight of the faculties of Hong Kong Baptist University and also for the encouragement from the Education Bureau through the scholarship. Thank you.
