Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours)

I am very honoured to receive the Best Progress Award, which is recognition of the effort and commitment I have dedicated to my studies.
I have been a dance enthusiast from a young age. While in secondary school, I represented my school in various dancing competitions and performances, hoping that dancing would become part of my life. However, in 2011, unable to attain satisfactory HKALE results, I felt extremely lost and confused. Subsequently, encouraged by my friends, I enrolled in the College’s sub-degree programme. At that time, parental and personal pressure spurred me to make up my mind to strive for good results so as to get a bachelor’s degree within a year. I even wanted to set aside my interest then.
Not only has the self-financing programme given me an alternative learning opportunity, but it has also changed my attitude towards learning. In the few years that I have been studying in the OUHK, I have changed from a person lacking learning motivation to one who endeavours to gain knowledge. Before then, I lost self-confidence and the drive to learn, having failed in the public examination. Fortunately, the OUHK gave me a chance to continue my studies by admitting me to its programme in Social Sciences. I am very interested in the programme as the area of study is closely related to our daily lives. Now when I encounter difficulties in my studies, I would try my best to identify the problem and resolve it. When I come across topics that I do not understand, I would clarify my queries by consulting the reference books or my teachers. Besides, I read the textbooks every day to consolidate what I have learnt in different subjects.
I am very grateful to my family and friends for always being there to support and encourage me. Also, I would like to thank the OUHK for giving me the opportunity to pursue further studies and my teachers for their attentive guidance. They do not only pass on knowledge, but also share their insights and experiences of learning. I have indeed gained a great deal from their teaching.
